Well folks, today was the day when Nokia took to the podium, to announce their next wave if Windows phones, and that means we have a brand new flagship to talk about. Say hello to the Nokia Lumia 920

Oh, and they also announced a successor to the Nokia Lumia 800, as well, in the form of the Lumia 820, but since that phone’s not as exciting as the new flagship, I’m not going to talk about it much. Suffice to say that, as a mid-ranger, it’s pretty bleedin’ impressive, but that’s not the reason we’re here, is it? No, we’re here to see the main event…

And that, my friends, is the Nokia Lumia 920, the brand new flagship, designed to show off the capabilities of Windows Phone 8. Now I’m still not a fan of Windows Phone (functional but dull, that’s what I think to it), but I do have to concede that, as far as looks go, the Lumia 920 is actually rather pretty. But then, I always liked the design of the Nokia Lumia 900, this phone’s predecessor, and given that this new phone is almost a dead ringer for it, I can’t say I’m surprised that I find it aesthetically pleasing (even if the bright yellow version is gopping).

The specs seem pretty decent, too, with a 4.5 inch screen (running at 1280 x 768 pixels), a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor that’s clocked to 1.5GHz, and more importantly, an 8MP PureView camera which, while it doesn’t have the phenomenal 41MP PureView sensor seen previously, seems to be pretty damn impressive, especially when it comes to night shots. Oh, and also, brilliantly, the Nokia Lumia 920 supports wireless charging, that’s always cool. On the software front, I still have a really deep dislike for Windows Phone, but there is one rather funky new addition, in the form of Nokia City Lens, which appears to be a rather well featured augmented reality app, and because it’s made by a European company, perhaps it might even work in European cities, instead of just in the colonies!

Well, we can but hope…

Again, though, the thing that would hold me, personally, back from ever buying one is the operating system. Windows Phone 8 looks powerful. It looks fast. It looks intuitive. But alas, it also looks about as dull as ditchwater that’s been sterilised of all life and had all its nightclubs closed, so there’s simply no atmosphere. That analogy may have gotten away from me, there, a bit, but the point is that I reckon the Nokia Lumia 920 actually looks like a really good phone.

However, that’s in spite of Windows Phone 8, not because of it…
